Alarming Laboratory Results
Recent testing conducted by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council on February 13, 2026, yielded results that local officials described as unprecedented for a residential block.
Middle Lawn Drain: 9.9 million CFU per 100ml.
Driveway Ponding: 890,000 CFU per 100ml.
Safety Benchmark: For perspective, 540 CFU per 100ml is considered the threshold for unsafe swimming in freshwater. The lawn drain reading was more than 18,000 times this limit.
E. coli (Escherichia coli) is a bacterium found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals. While many strains are harmless, elevated levels in residential areas pose a severe risk of gastric illness, kidney complications, and wound infections.
