Low Expectations and the "Lucky" Label
Speaking with the Independent, Kudrow bluntly stated, “Nobody cared about me.” She recalled that even within her own talent agency, she was frequently dismissed as just "the sixth Friend."
Despite her 1998 Emmy win for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Kudrow felt that many in Hollywood saw her success as a fluke. “There was no vision for me, and no expectations about the kind of career I could have,” she told Page Six. “There was just, like, ‘Boy, is she lucky she got on that show.’”
Defining Phoebe: More Than a "Ditz"
Reflecting on the character that defined her career, Kudrow challenged the common perception that Phoebe was merely a "ditz."
Real-Life Contrast: In a Q&A with Lily Tomlin for Interview magazine, Kudrow explained that Phoebe was originally "very far" from her own personality, requiring significant effort to justify the character's actions.
