A Pedigree of Excellence
Both Katie and Tim reached the heights of collegiate and professional basketball before transitioning into coaching and development:
Katie Smrcka-Duffy Fudd: An ACC Rookie of the Year at NC State before transferring to Georgetown, Katie was a fourth-round pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft. Her career was cut short by injuries—a factor that Azzi says motivates her to "achieve the dreams [her mom] didn't get to."
Tim Fudd: A standout at American University and an All-Colonial Athletic Association honoree, Tim played professionally in Europe for years. He has been a father figure to Azzi since she was two years old.
GTS Fusion: Developing the Next Generation
In 2012, the couple co-founded GTS Fusion, a premier girls’ basketball development program in the Washington, D.C. area. Tim brings coaching experience from the collegiate level (St. John’s and Longwood University), while Katie serves as the Head of Player Development. Their program focuses on the "holistic" growth of players—a philosophy evident in Azzi’s high-IQ play on the court.
