The Breaking Development: The $5.20 Flat White
Takeaway coffee has emerged as one of the primary drivers of food price inflation over the past 12 months.
Coffee Costs: The average price of a takeaway coffee hit $5.20 in March, a 6.5 percent increase from $4.88 a year earlier.
Meat & Poultry: The "Meat, Poultry, and Fish" category saw a significant 7.3 percent annual jump, led largely by the rising cost of steak and beef mince.
Other Staples: White bread and restaurant meals (up 2.8 percent) were also cited by Stats NZ as major contributors to the yearly increase.
