Meet Sam Battle: The Man Behind the Machines
Sam Battle is not your typical pop star. Based in Kent, he is an inventor and "circuit bender" who operates a museum of experimental musical instruments. He rose to fame via a YouTube channel where he constructs bizarre audio devices, including synthesisers made from Furbies and Game Boys, and a "synthesiser bicycle."
Battle's approach to music is purely analog; he famously records using his own inventions rather than computer software—the inspiration for his stage name. His technical prowess is backed by a Guinness World Record for the world's largest "drone synth," a massive wall-mounted machine capable of producing 1,000 separate tones simultaneously.
"Eins, Zwei, Drei": A Breakdown of the Song
The 2026 UK entry is described as a "delightfully bonkers" sandwich of sound. Influenced by Elvis Costello, The Human League, and the sprechgesang (spoken-singing) style of Ian Dury, the track tells a narrative of an office worker daydreaming of a holiday in Germany.
The Chorus: Features a call-and-response in German ("Eins, Zwei, Drei"), born from Battle's frequent van tours across Germany.
