A Brazen Intrusion into a Fatal Investigation

Authorities in Bexar County have detained Tionne Spears, 26, following a highly unusual and dangerous incident on a Texas state highway. According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, Spears allegedly ignored emergency barriers and drove directly into a secured crime scene where deputies were investigating a fatal pedestrian accident. The intrusion resulted in Spears’ vehicle running over the body of a 61 year old man who had been killed in a prior collision. The original accident involved a pedestrian being clipped by a side mirror and subsequently struck by a second vehicle, though investigators have cleared those initial drivers of any criminal wrongdoing.

Narrow Escape for On-Site Investigators

The incident posed a severe threat to the law enforcement personnel processing the scene. Sheriff Salazar noted that Spears narrowly missed striking several deputies who were standing near the victim's body at the time she barreled through the yellow police tape. The Sheriff expressed disbelief at the lack of awareness displayed by the driver, stating that in over three decades of law enforcement experience, he had never witnessed a motorist drive through a marked crime scene and strike a deceased individual already lying on the roadway.

Intoxication and Discovery of Stimulants

Upon stopping the vehicle and taking Spears into custody, deputies observed signs of heavy intoxication. While the specific substance affecting her driving has not yet been confirmed by laboratory results, a search of the vehicle revealed the presence of khat. Khat is a plant native to Africa known to act as a potent stimulant. Salazar explained that the plant is often used to induce a sense of bravado and increased pain tolerance, which may have contributed to the suspect’s apparent unawareness of the emergency lights and barricades.
