A Long-Awaited Indictment in Henderson Park Killings
Justice for the families of two Bryan men moved a significant step forward this Thursday as a grand jury returned a capital murder indictment against Jaime Serna. The charges stem from a violent encounter on August 18, 2021, at Henderson Park. Just before 9:30 p.m., 20-year-old Wilbert Cruz and 18-year-old Jace Harris were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds near the intersection of Mockingbird Road and Palasota Drive. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, sparking an investigation that has spanned several years.
Eyewitness Accounts and Forensic Details
The indictment follows years of evidence gathering by Bryan investigators, bolstered by multiple witnesses who identified Serna as the shooter. According to witness reports, the attack began with shots fired from inside a 2008 black Mazda. The shooter then allegedly exited the vehicle through the driver’s side door and fired an additional three to four rounds at the victims. This second burst of gunfire ensured the lethality of the attack, according to investigators who processed the scene in 2021.
Rap Video Lyrics Used as Digital Evidence
A unique and critical piece of evidence in the state's case is a YouTube rap video posted by Serna under the stage name "Dracojay." Detectives noted that the video was published online roughly a year after the homicides and contained specific, incriminating lyrics. The verses included phrases such as “Draco caught two bodies” and “shot them in the head, I ain’t got no mercy.” Law enforcement utilized the video not only to track Serna's location but also as a digital admission of the specific nature of the crimes committed at Henderson Park.
