Signs of Stabilization in Europe
Tesla’s performance in February 2026 has provided a much-needed boost for the automaker, following a challenging two-year period defined by a 27% sales slump in 2025. Official registration data often used as a proxy for actual sales shows that Tesla is successfully clawing back market share in major European hubs. Analysts view these figures as a signal that the brand’s efforts to stabilize its European presence are beginning to yield results, even as traditional incumbents and new Chinese entrants like BYD continue to fight for dominance in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
French Market Surge
In France, Europe’s third-largest car market, Tesla’s registrations skyrocketed by 55% in February compared to the same period last year. This growth is particularly notable as it occurred while most of Tesla's rivals experienced a contraction in sales. The surge indicates that Tesla’s pricing strategies and brand resilience are resonating with French consumers, helping the company distance itself from a dismal December 2025 performance where registrations had plummeted by 66%.
Norwegian Recovery and Mixed Nordic Results
Norway, a global bellwether for EV adoption, also saw a positive shift for Tesla with a 32% increase in registrations for February. This comes as a major relief after a staggering 88% plunge in January 2026, which was largely attributed to the "pull-forward" effect of government subsidy changes at the end of 2025. However, the Nordic recovery was not uniform; in Denmark, Tesla registrations fell by 18%. Despite the Danish dip, the overall regional trend suggests that the initial shock of policy changes in Scandinavia is beginning to wear off.
