Easing the Financial Burden on Service Members
With petrol prices remaining at elevated levels, the government has moved to protect the accessibility of healthcare for those who have served in the armed forces. Veterans Minister Chris Penk stated that the increase is a "targeted, temporary" measure designed for individuals with limited transport alternatives.
"Kiwis who have served our nation bravely... should not be discouraged from accessing essential care during this period of elevated fuel prices," Penk said. The policy specifically supports travel for treatment, rehabilitation, and medical assessments related to veterans' accepted service-related conditions.
The New Reimbursement Structure
The reimbursement rates have seen a substantial bump to reflect the current economic climate. These changes are effective immediately and apply to all veterans receiving support through Veterans' Affairs.
