Talley's Seafood confirms the closure of its Westport processing plant by May 15, 2026, consolidating operations to Motueka and Timaru amid economic pressure.

Impact on Staff and Relocation Offers
While the processing plant is shuttering, Talley’s CEO Tony Hazlett stated that all 92 affected employees will be offered alternative roles within the company.
Relocation Options: Opportunities are being provided across Talley's sites in Motueka, Blenheim, Canterbury, Timaru, and Greymouth, as well as roles on factory vessels at sea.
Support Services: The company has pledged assistance with CV writing, job searching, training, and wellbeing services. Some help with relocation and accommodation costs will also be provided where possible.
Residual Roles: While processing stops, a small number of roles will remain in Westport to handle ship unloads, weigh-ins, chiller operations, and logistics.
