A Massive Spike in Operational Costs

Taiwan’s aviation sector is bracing for a significant financial shift as international fuel surcharges are set to soar by 157% beginning April 7. The Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) and the Ministry of Transportation announced the measure on April 1, citing the urgent need for airlines to reflect the volatile "international trends" currently dominating energy markets. Major Taiwanese carriers, including China Airlines and Eva Air, have confirmed that the new rates will be applied to all international bookings made on or after the implementation date.

Breakdown of the New Surcharge Tiers

The hike is structured to account for flight distance, with the following changes taking effect:

Short-haul flights: Surcharges will increase by US$27.50, bringing the total to US$45.

Long-haul flights: Fees will rise by a substantial margin, reaching US$117.
