The Move to the Pack
Coach Rob Penney revealed that the positional shift was not a coaching whim but a request from the player himself. Fainga'anuku has reportedly been keen to test his physicality in the loose forwards, and Penney felt the high-pressure environment of the "Super Round" opener was the perfect stage.
"Leicester's been keen to explore that opportunity," Penney said. "He loves big environments, loves pressure moments, and we feel he'll add real value against this opposition."
A Historic Homecoming at Te Kaha
Friday's match is a milestone for Christchurch, marking the Crusaders' first game in a permanent home since the 2011 earthquakes. After 14 years at the temporary Addington facility, the team will run out to a sold-out crowd under the roof of the Te Kaha Stadium.
Fainga'anuku described the new venue as the "heart of the city," stating, "It's real beautiful and a great representation of our region... something our people deserve."
