Prosecution Demands Access to Secret Security Assessment

The State Attorney’s Office has formally requested that the Jerusalem District Court release a document reportedly authored by the Shin Bet regarding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's criminal trial. The request follows media reports that the security agency submitted an assessment claiming the Prime Minister is unable to provide testimony at this time. According to the State Attorney’s Office, the prosecution was not made aware of the document's existence through standard legal channels and only learned of the security warning via public news broadcasts.

Security Risks Linked to Foreign Threats

According to a report by Channel 13, Shin Bet chief David Zini submitted a position paper to the legal adviser of the Courts Administration warning of a significant risk to the Prime Minister’s life. The assessment specifically highlights that public knowledge of a lengthy court appearance could provide an opportunity for Iran to harm the premier. This security concern coincided with a separate request from Netanyahu’s legal team to postpone his scheduled testimony by a period of two weeks.

Procedural Omissions in Document Sharing

In its letter to the court, the State Attorney’s Office noted that it had not received Zini’s position paper, which it argues is a deviation from standard judicial practice. The prosecution stated that it is currently unaware if the document influenced the court’s decision to cancel this week’s testimony hearings. The office has asked the court to not only transmit the current document but to ensure that all future documentation pertinent to the proceedings is shared with the prosecutor’s office.
