This shift is designed to appeal to a younger, more adventurous Indian demographic that prioritizes experiential travel, including wildlife safaris in Yala National Park and world class surfing in Arugam Bay.

Strategic Policy and Financial Integration

To facilitate seamless travel, Sri Lanka has extended visa free entry for Indian nationals, a move that significantly reduces the administrative and financial barriers for short term visitors. Complementing this is the landmark integration of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), allowing travelers to use their domestic mobile apps for transactions across the island. This financial synergy not only simplifies the tourist experience but also encourages higher spending at the retail and grassroots levels, ensuring that the economic benefits of tourism reach local vendors and smaller enterprises.
