Multi-Agency Arrests in Hampden County

A disturbing investigation into child welfare has led to the arrests of two Springfield parents by the Special Victims Unit, in coordination with federal and state law enforcement. On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, authorities tracked down 25-year-old William Muniz on Main Street in Holyoke, while 28-year-old Editza Miro-Navarro was taken into custody at a residence on Girard Avenue in Springfield. The arrests mark the culmination of a month-long probe into the treatment of the couple’s three children, who are all between the ages of two and eight.

Allegations of Sexual Assault and Neglect

The criminal case centers on harrowing allegations regarding the couple’s two-year-old daughter. Muniz has been charged with the rape of a child with a ten-year age difference, among other related offenses. Beyond the sexual assault allegations, both parents face charges of reckless endangerment concerning their two sons. Detectives initially began investigating Muniz in early February for general child abuse, but the scope of the case expanded significantly as forensic interviews and medical examinations revealed evidence of sexual trauma.

Evidence Tampering and Failure to Report

The charges against Miro-Navarro highlight a secondary layer of the investigation focused on complicity and the destruction of evidence. According to the Special Victims Unit, Miro-Navarro became aware of the abuse approximately one month before the arrests. Rather than contacting authorities, investigators allege she remained silent and actively worked to impede the investigation. Specifically, police claim she destroyed cell phone data and digital records that may have contained evidence of the crimes committed against the two-year-old.
