First Phase of Service Restoration in May

The initial stage of Southeastern Railway’s 2026 expansion is set to commence on May 17, focusing on the restoration of critical links and the addition of new weekday services. Key improvements include the re-introduction of peak-hour trains connecting London Blackfriars with Gillingham and Maidstone East. Furthermore, the operator intends to fill existing gaps in the weekday schedule between Maidstone East and London Charing Cross, while increasing high-speed service frequency between Canterbury West and St Pancras on both weekdays and Saturday mornings.

Strategic Transformation of Metro Network Frequency

A more significant structural change is slated for December 2026, when Southeastern plans to implement a "turn up and go" model across its metro routes. Under this new system, trains will operate every 15 minutes from Monday to Saturday on nearly all metro lines, with the exception of the Bromley North branch. This shift is designed to provide travelers with more consistent departure times and greater flexibility, reducing the reliance on fixed schedules for short-haul journeys within the Greater London and South East regions.

Expanded Weekend and Branch Line Connectivity

The December update also brings targeted improvements to Sunday travel and regional branch lines. A new hourly service will operate on Sundays between Maidstone East and London Charing Cross, addressing a historical lack of weekend frequency on that route. Additionally, the Sheerness branch is set to see a substantial increase in capacity, with the timetable moving to two trains per hour, operating all day, seven days a week. These adjustments reflect the company's efforts to monitor and respond to evolving post-war travel patterns in the region.
