A Targeted Confrontation on Monticello Road

Law enforcement operations in Richland County culminated Thursday night with the arrest of a suspect linked to a fatal afternoon shooting in North Columbia. Deputies were initially called to the 7300 block of Monticello Road at approximately 12:15 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered one individual who had succumbed to their injuries at the scene and a second victim who required immediate transport to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department quickly transitioned the site into a major crime scene as they sought to identify the shooter responsible for the midday violence.

Pre-Arranged Meeting Ends in Gunfire

The subsequent investigation into the incident revealed that the violence was not a random act of aggression. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, investigators were able to determine that the two victims and the suspect were known to each other prior to the encounter. The parties had reportedly agreed to meet at the Monticello Road location for reasons that have not yet been publicly disclosed. Authorities stated that once all individuals arrived at the designated spot, the suspect immediately began firing at the victims, leading to the identification of 20-year-old Anthony Boyd as the primary perpetrator.

Rapid Apprehension by County Deputies

Following the shooting, the Sheriff’s Department launched a targeted search for the identified suspect. Deputies successfully tracked Boyd’s location and executed an arrest without incident around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. The approximately seven-hour gap between the shooting and the arrest highlights the rapid pace of the investigation as detectives worked to secure the area and prevent further public risk. Boyd was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he remained as of Friday morning awaiting his initial legal proceedings.
