A Narrow Escape for Four Young Children

A Sunday evening in Covington nearly turned tragic when a vehicle breached the exterior wall of a local residence where several children were playing. At approximately 7:15 p.m. on March 8, Covington Police Department (CPD) officers were dispatched to Hill Avenue following reports of a vehicle striking a home. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a maroon 2005 Nissan X-Terra embedded in the structure. The impact occurred against a wall directly adjacent to a room occupied by four children, ranging in age from 4 to 10 years old.

Emergency Evaluation and Property Damage

The force of the crash caused extensive structural damage to both the interior and exterior of the home, with preliminary estimates placing the repair costs at $15,000. While the children did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the proximity of the impact necessitated an immediate medical assessment. They were transported to a local hospital for comprehensive evaluations and were subsequently released. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Dominick Pegues of Somerville, remained at the scene and was found by officers still seated in the vehicle following the collision.

A Litany of Legal Violations

As the investigation unfolded, CPD officers uncovered a series of legal infractions that led to Pegues’ immediate arrest. Beyond the physical destruction of the property, police cited Pegues for several motor vehicle and safety violations. The most significant among these are four counts of child endangerment, reflecting the extreme risk posed to the minors inside the home. Additionally, investigators found evidence of an open container within the vehicle and determined that Pegues was operating the SUV with a revoked driver’s license.
