New Strategic Body to Navigate Economic Transition

Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim, announced the formation of a dedicated economic resilience committee during the annual Minister's Hari Raya Get-Together on Friday evening. The committee is designed to address community anxieties regarding rapid shifts in the global workforce, specifically focusing on how Malay-Muslim employees and businesses can adapt to the emerging economy. According to Faishal, the initiative aims to translate broad national economic recommendations into localized, tangible actions that secure long-term growth for the community.

Leadership Tasked with Mapping Growth Sectors

The committee will be co-chaired by Dr Wan Rizal, Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC, and Saktiandi Supaat, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC. This leadership team, comprised of corporate figures and industry experts, is tasked with identifying specific sectors pertinent to the community. Saktiandi, an economist, noted that the committee’s formation coincides with a critical juncture of global technological change. He emphasized that the group will move beyond theory to provide practical pathways for workers to remain adaptable and confident in a more competitive landscape.

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Regional Expansion

A primary focus of the new body involves the transformative power of artificial intelligence and the expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises. Faishal highlighted that local companies are increasingly eager to explore international markets, particularly within the Middle East and the broader Asian region. The committee intends to support these entrepreneurs in developing new capabilities and moving up the value chain. By focusing on AI and productivity, the initiative seeks to ensure that Malay-Muslim businesses are not left behind by the digital disruptions noted in the recent Economy Strategy Review.
