Tragedy at 4th and Channel Streets On February 27, 2026, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a vehicle struck an adult and a 2-year-old child who were crossing the street in the Mission Bay neighborhood. First responders transported both victims to a local hospital, where the toddler was later declared deceased despite lifesaving efforts. The adult victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

The SFPD Traffic Collision Investigations Unit (TCIU) identified the driver as 47-year-old Merih Fssha Solomon of Walnut Creek. Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Solomon on charges of:

Vehicular Manslaughter (192(c)2 PC)

Red Light Violation (2145(a) CVC)

Failure to Yield to Pedestrians (21950(a) CVC)

Fatal Collision at Kearny and Broadway A second fatal incident occurred on March 5, 2026, at approximately 10:42 p.m. involving a vehicle, a pedestrian, and a man on a scooter. Upon arrival at the Kearny and Broadway intersection, officers found an adult male pedestrian with critical injuries; he was declared deceased at the scene. A second victim, who fell from his scooter during the collision, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
