Extradition and Upcoming Legal Proceedings

The legal process for a violent February homicide in Cincinnati took a step forward as 18 year old Derrick Terry was moved from Montgomery County to the Hamilton County jail on Tuesday night. Terry, who had been arrested by Dayton police last month, is scheduled to appear before a judge on Wednesday morning to face charges related to the shooting death of Anthony Davis.

The Timeline of a Violent Drug Deal

According to investigators from the Cincinnati Police Department, the fatal encounter began at a Speedway gas station on East Galbraith Road. Derrick Terry and at least one co-defendant allegedly contacted Davis to arrange a drug transaction involving marijuana. After an unsuccessful attempt to fraudulently obtain cash inside the gas station, the suspects entered Davis’s vehicle. Police affidavits state that Davis was in possession of both marijuana and a loaded firearm at the time of the meeting.

A Fatal Shooting and High-Speed Crash

The situation escalated inside the moving car when Terry allegedly brandished his own weapon and demanded Davis’s property. Prosecutors claim that while the vehicle was in motion, Terry shot Davis multiple times. Terry and his accomplice then reportedly jumped from the moving car to elude capture, leaving the wounded Davis inside. The vehicle continued for approximately one mile before crashing on Burns Avenue in the Hartwell neighborhood. Davis was discovered by first responders and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
