Aggressive Enforcement Tactics Targeting Prolific Retail Offenders

Chief Derrick Lew announced on March 10 that the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has successfully apprehended several individuals linked to extensive theft series across the city. The Organized Retail Crime Task Force, which operates through a strategic partnership with the California Highway Patrol and the District Attorney’s Office, focused its efforts on suspects who have repeatedly targeted high volume retailers. These arrests mark a significant push by local law enforcement to utilize updated legal frameworks, specifically Penal Code 666.1 and 487(e), which allow for felony bookings of suspects with prior convictions.

Habitual Offender Apprehended in Twenty Thousand Dollar Whole Foods Series

One of the most significant investigations involved 37 year old Anthony Drayton, who was identified as a habitual thief targeting Whole Food Markets along the California coast. Working alongside Sonoma County investigators and retail asset protection teams, the task force determined that Drayton was responsible for five distinct thefts in San Francisco between December and February. The total loss from these incidents reached nearly $21,000. Drayton was arrested on February 25 and faces multiple counts of grand theft and commercial burglary, alongside several outstanding warrants from neighboring jurisdictions.

Dismantling a Coordinated Trio Targeting Local Supermarkets

In a separate operation, investigators identified a group of three suspects responsible for a string of thefts at Safeway locations. By collaborating with store security, the task force linked the trio to nine different incidents between August and December. The suspects, identified as Sire Cooper, Earlando Jordan, and Elgin Rose, were arrested between late January and early February. Rose, specifically, was charged with making criminal threats and felony petty theft with priors, highlighting the volatile nature of these organized retail encounters.
