Scaling Healthcare Access Through Strategic Partnerships

In a significant boost to rural healthcare, no fewer than 1,500 residents across Gombe State have benefited from a comprehensive medical outreach organized by Rotary International in partnership with the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA). The initiative, which spanned from March 16 to March 19, 2026, focused on bringing clinical services directly to underserved populations. By decentralizing care, the partnership effectively addressed the logistical barriers that often prevent the most vulnerable—specifically children under 15 and women of childbearing age—from accessing routine medical evaluations.

Multidisciplinary Technical Execution Across Five Hubs

the outreach was characterized by a high level of technical expertise, deploying 48 skilled healthcare professionals across three Local Government Areas (LGAs): Gombe, Kaltungo, and Yamaltu Deba. The medical teams consisted of a diverse array of specialists, including midwives, community health extension workers (CHEWs), laboratory technicians, and pharmacy technicians. This multidisciplinary approach ensured that patients received a full continuum of care, from initial diagnostic recording to the dispensing of essential medications, all within their immediate communities such as London Mai Dorawa and Kalorgu.

The "Together for Healthy Family" National Framework

This intervention is part of a broader national project titled "Together for Healthy Family in Nigeria," currently being implemented in Ekiti, Nasarawa, the FCT, and Gombe under the leadership of National Coordinator Prof. Emmanuel A. Lufadeju. The project specifically targets the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. By integrating these local outreaches into a national framework, Rotary International is able to standardize care quality and ensure that the data collected in Gombe contributes to larger public health strategies aimed at improving Nigeria’s overall health indices.
