The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington announced on Wednesday the sentencing of two defendants who consistently bypassed immigration laws by returning to the country after prior deportations. Alberto Figeroa-Luque, a 45-year-old Mexican national, and Fredy Carcamo, a 54-year-old Guatemalan national, were each handed six-month prison terms by Judge Tana Lin. Federal officials indicated that both men are expected to face deportation proceedings immediately upon the completion of their respective sentences.
Alberto Figeroa-Luque has a documented history of immigration violations, having been deported to Mexico five times since 2012. His most recent encounter with law enforcement occurred in Marysville, where local police arrested him for the public use of a controlled substance. During a subsequent search of his belongings, officers discovered a semi-automatic handgun with a loaded magazine along with quantities of cocaine and fentanyl. Following his state arrest, a judicial warrant allowed for his transfer to federal custody, where he pleaded guilty to the felony of reentry of a removed alien in December.
Fredy Carcamo’s criminal history in Washington dates back to 2007, when he was convicted of attempted voyeurism in King County Superior Court. Despite a deportation order issued that same year, he remained in the country and was convicted again in 2020 for first-degree voyeurism after being caught peering into a neighbor's window at a woman and child. Carcamo was deported twice between 2021 and 2022 but was arrested again in November 2025 in King County for failing to register as a sex offender. Like Figeroa-Luque, he was transferred to federal authorities and pleaded guilty to illegal reentry.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Floyd emphasized that the prosecution of these individuals remains a priority for the office, particularly when illegal reentry is coupled with crimes that threaten community safety. Floyd noted that while many individuals are removed before federal convictions are secured, these two cases serve as examples of the administration’s focus on "criminal aliens" involved in drugs, weapons, and sex offenses. The investigations into both defendants were spearheaded by Homeland Security, highlighting the coordination between local police and federal immigration agencies.
