Following a period where the suspect barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the hospital garage, police deployed tear gas to force an exit. Authorities report that Robinson emerged from the vehicle and pointed a firearm at officers, prompting SWAT members to open fire. Robinson was killed at the scene; no officers were injured during the exchange.

Known to Representative Crockett and the local community as "Mike King," Robinson operated a security business by claiming to be a federal agent for a non-existent agency. Deputy Police Chief William Griffith noted that Robinson used stolen U.S. government plates on a replica undercover vehicle and wore fraudulent uniforms to recruit legitimate off-duty officers for security jobs. Upon his death, police recovered 11 firearms, including a stolen handgun Robinson was reportedly holding during the final confrontation.
