Emergency Powers Triggered
Governor-General Tofiga Vaevalu Falani announced the measure on Monday, granting the government broad, temporary powers to manage the crisis. For the next two weeks, authorities have the mandate to:
Control Supplies: Ration the distribution of fuel to essential services only.
Restrict Consumption: Mandate "blackout" periods or limit the use of non-essential lighting and electricity.
Regulate Transport: Control the movement of vehicles and vessels to preserve petroleum stocks.
The declaration is intended to ensure "equitable access" to what remains of the island’s critical energy reserves while preventing national instability during this high-risk period.
