Strategic Investment in Host Community Education
Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Ltd (PINL), the private security firm overseeing the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) and the Eastern Gas Network (EGN), has announced a major corporate social responsibility milestone. At a stakeholders' meeting held in Bayelsa on Thursday, the firm awarded scholarships totaling N2 billion to 600 students from its host communities. This initiative targets both undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing each beneficiary with grants ranging from N500,000 to N1,000,000 to support their academic pursuits.
NNPCL Advocates for Community Surveillance Synergy
The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has lauded the initiative as a vital tool for pipeline security. Akponime Omojevwe, Head of Field Operations for the NNPCL Project Monitoring Office, emphasized that the strong bond between PINL and Bayelsa communities is essential for protecting national assets. Omojevwe urged stakeholders to consolidate this progress, noting that 100% collaboration from host communities is the most effective deterrent against pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering activities on the TNP.
Broadening Human Capital Development Programs
Beyond academic scholarships, PINL’s General Manager for Community and Stakeholder Relations, Dr. Akpos Mezeh, announced the commencement of several auxiliary empowerment schemes. These include specialized skill acquisition programs for youths and financial disbursement for women’s empowerment initiatives within the 215 host communities. According to Mezeh, these gestures are a direct sign of the company's commitment to aligning its surveillance operations with the Federal Government’s goal of achieving 2.5 million barrels per day (mbpd) in crude oil production.
