"Killing a People with Hunger"
In an interview with RTVE and EFE, Petro emphasized the humanitarian toll of the sanctions, stating that the embargo limits access to basic goods, life-saving medicines, and developmental opportunities for millions of Cubans.
Condemnation of Force: Petro explicitly criticized the current rhetoric coming from Washington, referencing threats of military intervention. "The U.S. thinks of attacking with missiles, of imposing itself... they should not do it," he warned.
The Call for Dialogue: Against the backdrop of a U.S. delegation's recent visit to Havana, Petro insisted that "talking" is the only viable path forward, advocating for diplomacy over isolation.
A Different Vision of Democracy
Petro differentiated the Cuban situation from that of Venezuela, noting that Cuba experienced a "true, profound revolution" that defines its social identity.
