Peanut M&Ms No Longer Gluten-Free Following Recipe Update
Mars New Zealand confirms that Peanut M&Ms now contain barley malt extract, making them unsafe for those with coeliac disease. The change takes effect this April.

Why the Change?
According to a statement from Mars New Zealand, the shift is a result of sourcing changes and a recipe overhaul.
New Ingredients: The updated recipe now includes malt extract from barley.
Cross-Contamination: The company has also added warnings regarding the potential presence of wheat due to shared manufacturing processes.
Scope of Change: This allergen advice is being rolled out across M&M'S Milk Chocolate and Mini products (excluding mini tubes) as of April 20, 2026.
