The Consolidating Cybersecurity Footprint in Israel
In a decisive move to solidify its presence in the global tech capital, Palo Alto Networks has begun a search for a centralized office campus in the heart of Tel Aviv. The American cybersecurity giant, which recently joined the local stock exchange following its acquisition of Israeli-founded CyberArk and KOI, currently operates out of Alon Tower, where it occupies 19 floors totaling 27,000 square meters. However, with the integration of CyberArk’s 1,000-strong workforce, currently based in Petah Tikva, and its own 1,600 local employees, the company’s total headcount in Israel is set to reach 2,600. By seeking a space of 85,000 to 100,000 square meters, the firm is signaling an aggressive long-term growth strategy that rivals the largest international tech presences in the country.
Comparing Footprints: A New Scale for Cybersecurity
The scale of the proposed headquarters places Palo Alto Networks in the same tier as global tech titans. For comparison, Google currently leases roughly 100,000 square meters across multiple Tel Aviv locations, while Microsoft’s expansive Herzliya campus covers approximately 43,000 square meters. Even Apple’s planned expansion in the region is expected to reach only 70,000 square meters. This massive requirement indicates that Palo Alto Networks is not just looking to house its current staff, but is preparing for significant future expansion, potentially through further domestic acquisitions or organic hiring surges.
Prime Candidates for the New "Cyber Campus"
Due to the sheer size of the requirement, only a handful of upcoming projects in Tel Aviv and its immediate borders can accommodate such a request. One primary candidate is the Azrieli Spiral Tower, which is currently under construction and slated to offer 150,000 square meters across 91 floors. Another leading option is the ToHa2 project, a 77-story tower offering 160,000 square meters of premium office space. For a solution slightly north of the traditional business district, the Beyond project on the Givatayim-Tel Aviv border is also being considered, with 130,000 square meters across 80 floors. According to market estimates, leasing such a space would cost approximately 180 million NIS annually, based on current average rates of 150 NIS per square meter in the central business district.
