The Interception of Suspects Along Awolowo Road

The Oyo State Police Command has successfully apprehended a three-man robbery syndicate during a routine security operation designed to bolster public safety in the state capital. On April 6, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers attached to the Bodija Market Division signaled a Bajaj motorcycle to stop along Awolowo Road. The tactical decision to intercept the vehicle was based on reasonable suspicion regarding the behavior of the riders as they navigated the Bodija area.

Identification of the Alleged Criminal Elements

Following the stop, police identified the operator of the motorcycle as 26-year-old Godwin Cletus. He was accompanied by two passengers, identified by the Command as 17-year-old Adedokun Isah and 19-year-old Rafiu Usman. All three individuals are residents of the Gbaremu neighborhood in Ibadan. The apprehension of the group marks a significant breakthrough for local law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to dismantle small-scale criminal cells operating within residential and commercial corridors.

Recovery of Evidence and Stolen Valuables

A comprehensive search of the suspects conducted at the scene led to the discovery of incriminating items hidden within their belongings. Specifically, police recovered a toy pistol that had been concealed inside a black bag, an implement often used to intimidate victims during street-level robberies. In addition to the imitation firearm, officers found six mobile phones which the suspects were unable to account for, further strengthening the case for their involvement in recent local thefts.
