A Massive Blow to Global Cybercrime Infrastructure
Interpol has announced the successful conclusion of "Operation Synergia III," a multi-national initiative designed to dismantle the digital architecture used by cybercriminals. Running from mid-2025 through early 2026, the operation successfully sinkholed approximately 45,000 IP addresses and led to the seizure of 212 electronic devices and servers. By sinkholing these addresses, law enforcement effectively diverted malicious traffic away from criminal-controlled servers, neutralizing thousands of potential threats simultaneously.
Notable Arrests and National Contributions
The operation saw significant participation from law enforcement agencies across multiple continents:
Bangladesh: Authorities arrested 40 suspects and seized 134 electronic devices. The targeted individuals were allegedly involved in identity theft, credit card fraud, and various loan and job-seeking scams.
Togo: Police dismantled a fraud ring operating out of a residential area, arresting 10 suspects. These individuals specialized in a range of offenses from high-level hacking of social media accounts to social engineering crimes such as sextortion and romance scams.
