Coordinated Strike Against Global Scams

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has successfully dismantled a sophisticated international fraud syndicate following a joint intelligence operation with Chinese law enforcement. The operation, titled "Op Dragon," targeted a network of Chinese nationals who had established operational bases across multiple countries, including Malaysia, to evade authorities in their home country. The syndicate specialized in cross-border fraud, utilizing advanced communication technologies to deceive victims globally.

Arrests and Repatriation of Syndicate Ringleaders

A total of 16 individuals, identified as the syndicate’s primary ringleaders, were apprehended during the sweep. Following their arrest, the suspects were immediately repatriated to China to face trial. Zamri Zainul Abidin, MACC’s special operations division senior director, confirmed that the repatriation process was conducted in strict adherence to legal and diplomatic protocols, involving close coordination with the Chinese embassy and the Malaysian Immigration Department. The suspects had reportedly been hiding abroad while managing the syndicate's daily operations.

Seizure of Luxury Assets and High-Tech Tools

During the raids, MACC officials seized assets valued at RM3.5 million (approximately $890,000). The haul included two luxury vehicles, jewelry, gold bars, and significant amounts of foreign currency. Crucially, investigators also recovered hundreds of mobile phones, laptops, and personal computers, which served as the "engine room" for the syndicate's fraudulent activities. The MACC has initiated forfeiture proceedings to return the value of these assets to the Malaysian government.
