Legal Deadlock Stalls Release of Cryptocurrency Entrepreneur
Omoyele Sowore has provided a detailed update regarding the ongoing legal battle involving cryptocurrency businessman Blord and social media critic VeryDarkMan. Blord, who was recently remanded at Kuje prison, faces charges in the Federal High Court of Abuja including criminal conspiracy and the unauthorized use of an individual’s image. According to Sowore, the bail process has hit a procedural wall as the police have formally filed a counter affidavit to oppose the businessman’s release. The defense team responded on Monday, April 13, 2026, by filing a further and better affidavit to address the police opposition.
Judicial Calendar Conflicts Create Procedural Backlog
The primary reason for the extended detention appears to be the strategic timing of the arrest, which coincided with the Easter holiday period. Sowore explained that the arrest was seemingly timed to ensure that Blord could not secure an immediate court date before the judges went on vacation. Although the judges have officially resumed their duties as of today, Sowore noted that the court has not yet fixed a specific date for the bail hearing. The resumption of the court does not guarantee that new matters will be prioritized immediately, leading to continued uncertainty for the defendant.
Sowore Challenges Police Conduct Under New Leadership
The activist expressed deep suspicion regarding the police’s decision to oppose bail, characterizing the entire case as a matter that should never have been brought before a court. Sowore specifically questioned the leadership of the new Inspector General, Tunji Disu, suggesting that the current force remains rooted in an older system of institutional oppression. By filing a counter affidavit in a case involving image rights and impersonation, the police are being accused by Sowore of using legal technicalities to prolong the detention of citizens unnecessarily.
