Personal Tracking of Stolen Property Leads to Violence

The incident occurred just before 9:15 p.m. in the Kingsbridge Heights section of the Bronx. NYPD sources indicate that the off-duty detective had been tracking a vehicle stolen from his family when he located the car on West 231st Street near Albany Crescent. Upon finding three men inside the vehicle, the officer approached and fired at least two shots. One bullet struck a 30 year old occupant in the head, while another shattered the front window of The Bronx Public bar across the street, where patrons were present.

Surveillance Captures Chaos on Bronx Street

Newly released surveillance footage depicts a dark colored vehicle parked behind the light colored stolen car. A man is seen walking from the dark vehicle and pointing a firearm at an individual near the stolen car. As the light colored vehicle attempts to flee, shots are fired from off camera, shattering the driver’s side window. The video highlights the danger of the situation, showing an MTA bus driving past the vehicle at the exact moment the shots were fired.

Hospitalization and Collateral Damage at Local Bar

The three men in the targeted vehicle drove directly to a local hospital following the shooting. The victim remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. Inside The Bronx Public bar, additional surveillance footage captured the moment a front window shattered from the officer's gunfire. While no injuries were reported among the bar’s customers, the stray bullet caused immediate panic as patrons scrambled for safety.
