The Verstappen Draw Overwhelms Entry Lists
The "Max Verstappen effect" has moved beyond the Formula 1 grandstands and onto the entry sheets of endurance racing. Organizers of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring have officially capped competitor entries after reaching the maximum limit of 150 cars—a milestone the event has not achieved in the post-COVID era. Typically, the grid hovers around 130 entries, but the prospect of sharing the "Green Hell" with the reigning F1 champion has spurred an unprecedented rush from professional and privateer teams alike.
Strict Selection Process Implemented
The surge in interest has presented a logistical challenge for the event organizers, ADAC Nordrhein. In a rare move, officials have indicated that meeting the entry deadline does not guarantee a spot on the grid. A statement from the organization confirmed that a rigorous review and selection process will now take place to ensure a fair and competitive field. This may result in the cancellation of some entries that were already submitted, as the technical and safety demands of managing 150 cars on the Nordschleife require a highly vetted roster of teams and drivers.
Verstappen’s Path to the "Green Hell"
Max Verstappen’s transition to GT3 racing has been a calculated process. The Dutchman spent much of late 2025 and early 2026 securing his DMSB Permit Nordschleife (often referred to as the "Ring Taxi" license) and competing in warm-up events. He made a successful GT3 debut in September, winning a round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Verstappen has been vocal about his desire to explore racing categories outside of the current F1 technical regulations, citing the Nürburgring 24 as a "bucket list" item he has long sought to tick off.
