Factional Leadership Denounces Opposition Coalition Meeting
The Agbo Major-led faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially distanced itself from the opposition parties’ summit held last weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State. During a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Major clarified that no recognized leaders of the party attended the gathering. He warned the public and other political entities that any expelled members presenting themselves as official NNPP representatives are impostors seeking unmerited relevance. The faction urged coalition organizers to verify the credentials of participants to avoid being misled by individuals no longer affiliated with the party.
Ultimatum Issued To INEC Over Portal Updates
In a direct challenge to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Major-led faction demanded immediate compliance with a Court of Appeal judgment. Major revealed that a meeting with commission officials took place on April 23, 2026, where the party pressed for the duly recognized National Working Committee (NWC) to be uploaded to the commission’s official portal. The faction cautioned that if INEC continues to ignore these court orders, the NNPP may join calls for the removal of the INEC chairman to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
Membership Drive Shows Significant Tech Adoption
Despite internal leadership disputes, the party reported encouraging progress with its electronic membership registration platform, which was launched two weeks ago. The NNPP leadership is currently conducting a comprehensive review of the nationwide exercise to ensure maximum transparency and inclusiveness. Major noted that zonal and state chairmen have been invited to assess the implementation of the registration drive. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to build a credible, technology-driven political institution that aligns with the digital expectations of the Nigerian electorate.
