Vigilance at the Mobolaji Johnson Station
The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the arrest of a suspected track vandal following a successful security sweep within the Alagomeji district of the Lagos rail network. According to Ignatius Igwe, the apprehension occurred on Thursday, March 26, 2026, when security operatives from Multi Eye Security Services conducted a routine patrol near the Mobolaji Johnson Train Station in Ebute Metta. The suspect was identified as Bashiru Hafeez, a 32 year old male, who was found in possession of specialized railway components at the time of his detention.
Theft of Critical Stability Components
Upon inspection, officials discovered fifteen pandrol clips, which serve as essential iron rail fasteners for the narrow gauge corridor. Callistus Unyimadu, the spokesperson for the corporation, emphasized that these specific components are vital for maintaining the structural stability of the tracks. The removal of such fasteners poses a severe threat to public safety, as the lack of proper track alignment significantly increases the risk of train derailments during transit.
Judicial Proceedings and Correctional Remand
Following the initial arrest, the suspect was transferred to the Nigerian Railway Police Command for formal processing and investigation. Hafeez was subsequently brought before a competent court in Lagos to face charges related to the theft of national infrastructure. The court ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, with the next legal hearing scheduled for April 24, 2026.
