Swift Search and Rescue in Southern Ijaw

The Nigerian Navy has demonstrated its rapid response capabilities following a serious maritime accident in the Ogboinbiri waterways of Bayelsa State. A distress call was received on Monday morning reporting a collision between a Tantita security patrol vessel and a local wooden market boat. In response, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, confirmed that personnel from NNS SOROH were immediately dispatched to the scene. The team successfully pulled seven survivors from the water, preventing further loss of life in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

Medical Evacuation and Ongoing Search Efforts

Following the initial rescue, the seven victims were evacuated to a nearby medical facility to receive urgent treatment for injuries sustained during the impact. While the rescue of these individuals marks a successful phase of the operation, the Navy has not yet accounted for all passengers. Divers and patrol teams remain on-site in the Ogboinbiri area, conducting a thorough search of the surrounding delta as they look for other persons reported missing by witnesses.

Strategic Priority: Maritime Human Safety

According to Navy Capt. Folorunsho, this operation is a direct reflection of the command's core mandate to safeguard lives within Nigeria's complex maritime environment. The mission aligns with the strategic vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, who has prioritized human safety and rapid emergency response alongside traditional maritime security. The Navy emphasized that its ability to mobilize NNS SOROH so quickly was key to the survival of the seven individuals rescued on Monday.
