Varied Atmospheric Conditions Across Northern Zones
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has released a comprehensive three day weather outlook, projecting a transition between sunny skies and localized thunderstorms for the northern region. On Monday, sunny conditions are expected to dominate the morning, followed by moderate rains in Adamawa and Taraba. By Wednesday, the intensity is predicted to increase, with Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi expected to experience thunderstorms. NiMet emphasized that while morning hours may remain clear, afternoon atmospheric instability will likely trigger rainfall across much of the northern belt.
Cloudy Intervals and Rainfall in North Central Region
For the North Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, the agency anticipates a cloudy morning atmosphere with sunshine intervals. However, residents should prepare for isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains affecting Niger, Kogi, and Kwara. The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday indicates a continuation of this pattern, with Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa likely to see increased precipitation. These conditions are expected to persist into the evening hours, potentially impacting local transport and outdoor activities.
Southern Region Braces for Widespread Thunderstorms
The southern states are projected to experience the most consistent rainfall throughout the three day window. NiMet envisages cloudy mornings with isolated thunderstorms in Abia, Enugu, Edo, and the Niger Delta states of Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom. By Wednesday afternoon, the agency expects moderate rains to cover the entire southern region, including Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo. This widespread activity is likely to cause localized flooding in low lying areas and may disrupt maritime and coastal operations.
