Denial of Systemic Logistics Failures
The Nigerian Army has issued a firm rebuttal against allegations circulating on social media regarding the purported neglect of soldier welfare and equipment. In a statement released on Tuesday, the military leadership characterized the claims as a deliberate attempt to misinform the Nigerian public and undermine the morale of active-duty troops. Col. Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that the institution maintains a rigorous logistics system designed to equip every soldier for operational success.
Disciplinary Basis for Personnel Discharge
Addressing the source of the controversy, the Army identified the whistleblower as Rotimi Olamilekan, a dismissed soldier formerly known by the moniker “Soja Boi.” Officials clarified that Olamilekan’s removal from the service was not a result of expressing personal opinions, but rather followed a documented history of grave acts of indiscipline. These violations reportedly included repeated breaches of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy, leading to a dismissal conducted in strict accordance with the Armed Forces Act and established military regulations.
Standardization of Salary and Allowances
The Army also refuted assertions that personnel are poorly compensated or that their pay remains opaque. According to Col. Anele, the military operates under the Manual of Financial Administration for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, which ensures a transparent salary structure tied to rank and length of service. Beyond basic monthly salaries, the spokesperson highlighted that soldiers receive various entitlements, including uniform allowances, ration cash, and specific operational bonuses for those serving in high-intensity theaters such as Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.
