Coordinated Strike Targets Core Operations of Notorious Bandit Leader
Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded a significant tactical victory following a fierce engagement at the camp of the infamous bandit kingpin, Bello Turji. The operation, executed by the 8 Division Strike Force based in Sokoto, focused on notorious hideouts within the Fakai community, spanning the Shinkafi and Isa Local Government Areas across Zamfara and Sokoto States. Commencing in the early hours of March 20, 2026, the mission sought to dismantle the operational base situated deep within the Kagara Forest, a known sanctuary for banditry activities in the North-West.
Troops Repel Ambush Following Mechanical Setback in Maberaya
The advancement into the forest faced a critical challenge when two combat support vehicles developed mechanical faults near Maberaya village. During the temporary halt in movement, heavily armed insurgents from Turji’s faction launched a pre-planned ambush, utilizing the high grounds and dense forest canopy for tactical cover. According to military sources, the troops maintained a disciplined defensive posture and responded with overwhelming firepower. The resulting skirmish led to the neutralization of dozens of bandits, successfully breaking the ambush and forcing the remaining criminals to retreat.
Casualties and Emergency Medical Support for Security Personnel
The encounter resulted in injuries to three soldiers and one operative from the Department of State Services (DSS). Following the cessation of immediate hostilities, the wounded personnel were promptly evacuated from the field and transported to the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto for specialized care. Army officials have emphasized that the rapid medical response was a priority, ensuring that those injured in the line of duty received immediate stabilization and treatment.
