A Decaying Power Infrastructure Triggers Political Alarm
The persistent failure of Nigeria’s electrical infrastructure has prompted a sharp rebuke from within the ruling party, as Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye expressed grave concern over the widening gap between government promises and the reality of darkened homes. According to Oyintiloye, the current state of the energy sector represents a massive setback to the broader economic reforms initiated by the Federal Government. The chieftain noted that despite repeated assurances from regulatory authorities, the frequency of power outages has only accelerated, leaving the citizenry in a state of growing frustration.
The Economic Toll on Small and Large Scale Enterprises
The lack of reliable electricity is no longer just a domestic inconvenience but has evolved into a systemic threat to the survival of the Nigerian private sector. According to Oyintiloye, small scale business owners and large industrial players are both bearing the brunt of a grid that often fails to provide even three hours of daily supply. The reliance on expensive alternative energy sources, compounded by the rising cost of fuel, has made it nearly impossible for many businesses to maintain their operations. This energy deficit is effectively hollowing out the productivity of the nation’s commercial hubs.
A Call for Direct Presidential Investigation and Accountability
To restore public confidence, there is an urgent need for the executive branch to bypass standard bureaucratic channels and initiate a transparent probe into the sector's mismanagement. According to Oyintiloye, President Tinubu should immediately constitute a panel to investigate whether the recurring grid collapses are the result of structural failures or internal sabotage. The APC leader emphasized that Nigerians deserve to know why massive public investments in the power value chain have failed to yield a stable transmission infrastructure or a reliable supply of gas to generating companies.
