Unified Digital Portal to Replace Multiple Trade Windows

Nigeria is preparing for a major overhaul of its fiscal and logistics landscape with the upcoming launch of the National Single Window (NSW). Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila described the project as a "transformational" fiscal reform. The platform is designed to serve as a singular point of contact for all trade-related transactions, effectively replacing the fragmented "multiple single windows" that previously slowed down commercial activities. By integrating various government agencies into one digital ecosystem, the administration seeks to create a more transparent and efficient trade environment.

Automated manifest processing and centralized risk management

The NSW will introduce several high-impact features during its first phase, including the online processing of import permits and the electronic submission of cargo manifests. NSW Coordinator Tola Fakolade confirmed that once a document is submitted, it will be automatically transmitted to all relevant agencies, such as Customs and NAFDAC, without the need for human intervention or duplicated paperwork. A centralized risk management system will also be implemented to flag high-priority consignments while allowing compliant trade to flow faster.

Inter-Agency Collaboration and Stakeholder Training

With only 23 days remaining until the launch, the government has intensified nationwide user training and is moving into the pilot testing phase. The implementation is being led by Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who has been tasked with sensitizing the trading community. This phase is critical for ensuring that importers, exporters, and clearing agents are fully prepared to transition from manual to digital processes. The synergy between the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is expected to be the cornerstone of the platform’s success.
