Progress in Rebuilding Nigeria’s Diplomatic Core
After months of anticipation following the recall of career and non-career ambassadors in late 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria is moving closer to fully restaffing its foreign missions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that it has received official "agreements" from 10 strategic international partners. This milestone marks a critical step in President Bola Tinubu’s "4D" diplomatic strategy—focused on Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demographics—ensuring that Nigeria’s interests are formally represented by confirmed envoys in major global capitals.
The First Wave of Approvals
According to a statement issued by ministry spokesperson Kimibie Ebienfa, the countries that have already signaled their acceptance of the designated Nigerian envoys include:
Western Partners: United Kingdom, United States of America, France, and Ireland.
Middle East & Gulf: Qatar.
