In a major boost for West Africa’s logistics sector, Nigerdock and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have entered into a 45-year partnership to revolutionize the Snake Island Port in Lagos. Announced on March 12, 2026, the deal authorizes MSC to develop and maintain an exclusive 30-hectare container terminal. This long-term commitment is designed to provide the world’s leading shipping line with a permanent "home" in Nigeria, facilitating smoother trade routes and attracting substantial foreign direct investment into the country's maritime infrastructure.
State-of-the-Art Infrastructure by 2028
The development phase of the Snake Island Container Terminal is expected to conclude by 2028. According to technical specifications released by Nigerdock, the facility will feature:
A 910-meter quay length
Two dedicated ship berths and three barge berths
