Strategic Engagement in Silicon Valley

The Federal Government of Nigeria has intensified its efforts to attract foreign direct investment and diaspora capital from the United States tech hub. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), delivered this message during a keynote address at the Pre-Africa Diaspora Investment Summit (ADIS26) in Silicon Valley, California. The event served as a high-level platform to showcase Nigeria as a conducive environment for technological innovation and long-term business partnerships, targeting both American investors and the successful Nigerian diaspora community in the region.

Promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda

In her address, Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the specific policy frameworks established under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. These reforms are designed to create a more transparent and enabling environment for productive investments, particularly in sectors that drive economic diversification. By focusing on the expertise and networks of the diaspora, the administration aims to facilitate a "brain gain" that moves beyond financial remittances toward the transfer of technical knowledge and institutional capital back to Nigeria.

Bridging the Gap Between Africa and Tech Hubs

The summit, themed “Bridging Africa & Silicon Valley: Shaping the Future of Innovation, Investment, and Inclusive Growth,” was held at Santa Clara University. Dabiri-Erewa underscored the importance of connecting Nigeria’s emerging tech ecosystem with the global standards found in Silicon Valley. She commended the African Diaspora Network (ADN) for fostering these connections, noting that such partnerships are vital for accelerating Nigeria’s technological advancement and ensuring inclusive economic growth that reaches the grassroots.
