Accelerating Regional Collaboration for African Energy Security
Mr. Akachukwu Nwokedi, President of the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) and Regional Coordinator for Africa at the International Gas Union (IGU), has issued a call for a coordinated continental approach to energy development. Following the Ministerial Roundtable on Regional Gas Development in Abuja, Nwokedi noted that while the African gas landscape is evolving, the primary obstacle remains the tendency for countries to operate in isolation. He argued that moving toward integrated regional markets is the only way to achieve the scale necessary to power African industries and homes.
Strategic Alignment with Nigeria’s 'Decade of Gas' Initiative
The roundtable was convened as part of Nigeria’s "Decade of Gas" program, a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the World Bank. The event hosted energy ministers, policymakers, and industry financiers to discuss how gas can serve as a catalyst for economic growth. By aligning national interests with regional infrastructure goals, the initiative seeks to position gas as a bridge fuel that supports reliable power generation and expands access to clean cooking solutions across the continent.
