Rapid Deployment of NZDF Assets
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has taken a central role in the logistics of the recovery effort, utilizing advanced aerial and transport capabilities to reach isolated regions:
Aerial Surveillance: A P-8A Poseidon conducted high-resolution survey flights over the Solomon Islands and PNG's Milne Bay Province. This imagery is critical for local governments to map the extent of infrastructure damage and identify landslide risks.
Heavy Lift Logistics: A C-130J Hercules transported 10 tonnes of initial supplies to PNG, later moving an additional 30 tonnes of local and international aid between Port Moresby, Lae, and affected provinces.
Last-Mile Delivery: NH90 helicopters have been essential for reaching "hard-to-access" communities in East New Britain and Bougainville, delivering food, medical kits, and household essentials where roads remain blocked by debris.
