Violence Erupts at Major Rail Hub

A senseless act of violence paralyzed the United States’ largest rail hub on Saturday morning when an assailant began a series of arbitrary attacks on commuters. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the suspect entered the subway system in Queens before traveling to the Grand Central-42 Street station. Upon arrival, the individual utilized a large machete to slash three separate victims across two different platform levels, prompting an immediate tactical response from nearby transit officers.

Machete Attacker Confronted on Subway Platform

The assailant has been identified by authorities as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin. Witnesses and police reports indicate that Griffin was behaving with extreme instability, repeatedly referring to himself as "Lucifer" during the rampage. Two transit officers intercepted the suspect at approximately 09:40 local time. According to Commissioner Tisch, the officers issued at least 20 verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, all of which were ignored as Griffin advanced toward the police with the machete extended.

Police Response and Fatal Shooting

Faced with an imminent threat, one of the responding officers discharged a firearm twice, striking the suspect. While the officers attempted to administer life-saving measures on-site, Griffin was later pronounced dead after being transported to Bellevue Hospital. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has since confirmed that body camera footage of the shooting will be released to the public, praising the officers for their rapid intervention which prevented further harm to the public.
